Experiences with Latest NV200 Van by NISSAN
Driving and feel of the latest NV200 van by NISSAN
Since the introduction of the Euro 4 emissions by LTA (Land Transport Authority) in early 2007 when the COE crashed to S$1 for many months, the smaller vans from Japan has been seen in Singapore. Till in late 2008, the Toyota Liteace the compact van was introduced in Singapore. It was being launched by parallel importer such as myself (Simply Cars) and a couple of local car dealers.
Due to its compact van, it hit the mass market like no man business then. During that period, only the continental vehicle such as Renault Kangoo has such models. Many like to drive a van that looks and handles like a normal private petrol driven vehicle. During the launch of Toyota Liteace, it also introduces the petrol model which was very popular among the ladies and automatic craze drivers. But sad to say, the Toyota Liteace was petrol driven and is pretty high fuel consumption as compared to the similar diesel driven models.
Since then, there was not have any Japan models light compact vans available in Singapore. Thus the new NV 200 is breakthrough in Singapore. It offers a large carrying space in a compact van. You can enjoy a spacious cabin with plenty of storage space.. Its Co2 level is only one of the lowest in its class at 137g/km. This simply means that the fuel economy is 5.2L/100km. Its cargo volume is estimated to be 4.2m3 and able to carry up to 752 payloads. It low floor bed and total height of 1.36m makes it easier for any HDB or multi level car park in Singapore (the height limit of 1.8m for most HDB and multi level car park). Its low floor bed even makes the loading and unloading of goods easier. Its width of 1.5m was amazing size and could carry easily 2 full size pallets.
The turning circle of 5.5m radius took me by surprise. It’s so small till when you make u turn or parking in any congested car park, even a P plate driver could make a U turn or park the vehicle easily. The engine I believed is a jointly developed by Renault as well as Nissan is using a “dci“engine. 1.5 diesel engine having a compression of 18.8 ratio brings the fuel economy to a efficient fuel economy of 5.2l/100km. Excellent for its class.
